JANIE PINNEY

Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Q
There are too many to name. I believe studying and appreciating many artist personalities and styles is an important segue into learning how to tap into our own creativity and style.
Q
What's your favorite medium? Why?
Q
Oil….it’s like painting with butter, icing, or lipstick and feels malleable.
Q
When's your favorite time of day to create?
Q
Afternoon.
@
What motivates you to create?
Q
It’s a way to let go of everyday life and time.
Q
When and how did you start creating art?
Q
My mother signed me up for art lessons as a child and we learned in oil.
Q
How do you define success as an artist?
Q
Painting makes me happy and if my work makes others happy, it’s a double win!
Q
Does art help you in any other areas of your life?
Q
It encourages me to look and see a little deeper.
Q
How did you develop your art knowledge and skills?
Q
Paint, paint, and paint some more along with learning from from other artists.
Q
How has your style changed over time?
Q
I’ve sort of morphed into creating more abstract work….it’s more spontaneous.
Q
What are your ultimate art goals?
Q
To continue to paint and learn.
Q
What are the biggest challenges of being an artist?
Q
Comparing.
Q
Do you have any techniques for overcoming creative blocks?
Q
Rest, exercise, look at/read art books and walk away from the painting and come back when you are ready.
Q
Who do you value most in your life and why?
Q
Sharing life with family and friends.
Q
If you could own a studio anywhere in the world to create art, where would it be and why?
Q
I’d expand my studio at home since it is convenient to paint where I live.
Q
What's the best experience you've had in your life so far?
Q
Being a mother….the most rewarding and challenging.
Q
If humans lost the ability to see all color except one, which color would you want to survive and why?
Q
Green. There are many variations of green that surround us every day.
Q
Name three random facts about yourself.
Q
I’m the youngest of three girls and have three girls. I love dark chocolate, I swear snow makes me sneeze so I profess that I’m allergic!
Q
What's a new skill you'd like to learn and why?
Q
I wish I had more patience and skill with golf so I MAY learn to enjoy playing with my husband. Not sure this will ever happen……...
Q
What's the biggest life lesson you've learned?
Q
Love yourself in order to love others.
Q
Do you own a collection of anything? If so, what is it and why?
Q
I love our collected art. It brings joy!
